Along the banks of the Mississippi River sits Sauk Rapids, a town close to St. Cloud, and a flourishing Central Minnesota city with a rich history of its own. The population of 13,000 thrives in Sauk Rapids, where neighbors know each other and there’s a tranquility you can’t find in the big city. Close enough to St. Cloud to enjoy all the amenities it offers but separate enough to enjoy a walk down to the store where you can stop and chat with friends or colleagues, Sauk Rapids exudes a sense of community and a close knit feeling so often lacking in today’s hurry up and wait world. Whether you’ve come to visit or to stay, visit with the people here and enjoy their warm welcome. You’ll love the town, the people and the ambience that waits for you here!

Originally a forest of oak, maple and basswood trees along the Mississippi River, the first home was built by W.H. Wood soon to be followed by other settlers. They named the town Sauk Rapids after the rapids just below the Sauk River’s mouth and the city began to grown. Soon a general store, then a hotel, followed by churches, then the first newspaper outside of St. Paul, The Sauk Rapids Frontiersman, was founded in 1854. Other businesses followed as did a railroad, whose last stop was Sauk Rapids, bringing settlers from as far away as the upper Red River Valley, with their produce to ship. As always, time passes and Sauk Rapids has maintained its growth. In recent years, downtown Sauk Rapids has gone through major changes with the construction of the New Sauk Rapids Bridge. Today’s Sauk Rapids is a bustling little community with friendly people, inviting you to come visit, knowing you’ll want to stay.
